Robert Jordan passes away

One of the greatest fantasy authors has passed away. Robert Jordan was a master of the craft. Apart from the world building, his advancing grasp of prose and the construction of the written word was extraordinary. As proof, go read the book not for the flight of fantasy and in depth characters, but read sections to appreciate how the books are constructed. How sentences become paragraphs and those paragraphs convey an image and energy unlike few other authors. For me, he will be missed.

It is unfortunate that his work will go greatly unfinished. The final book of his Wheel of Time series was said to be partially completed and he had an army of people translating his dictated notes and outlines for the finish. It is my hope that his overall vision is realized for what is a life's work. I hope that his works receive a better treatment than the Elder Tolkiens did. I can only hope.

Lets put on the black armband for someone who provided us with hours, days and months of entertainment in our lives.

Man, I was just reading his blog last week and hoping he'd beat the odds. I'll wait until the last one is published and go back to read them all again.

WOW! I had no idea he was even sick, but then again I had no idea he even had a blog. He was a great writer and will be truly missed. His works inspired so many of us that we all emulated his worlds at least once. Your MUD based on his world was wonderful. It gave each of us a chance to be part of that environment he so richly created. I will miss his works.

That said, it pisses me off somewhat that his last two books, which could have completed his works, drug on so much that I was honestly wondering if he was writing more for the money then the fans. His last novel spanned over 400 pages and in his worlds time lasted what...a week? Egwene decided to attack the White Tower the book BEFORE this one and yet at the end of his last she still sat in camp preparing. *sigh* He had SO many great characters it was like he was trying so much to give each their time and the books suffered.

Although she is well and alive, I can't help but think of Melanie Rawn at this time. I hope she reads of this and thinks about what she has left open for all her fans and understands the heartache she left most in.

I guess any grumbles I have matter not the least compared to his familes pain. My deepest sorrows to them.
